Synopsis:

A psychoherapist with terminal cancer approaches the end of his life with the understanding that he is being called home and that cancer is the body's response to the call to facilitate the journey.

How he came to this realization is documented as a journey starting when he discovered Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and medicine work in the same year, 20 years before his diagnosis. The book jumps from journal entries from his last day to his first meeting with IFS founder Dr. Richard Schwartz and the transformation that results. Later that same year, he is guided to medical work. By healing the distress that parts hold in his system and experiencing profound healing with various medicines, his understanding of the psycho spiritual nature of being becomes clear. He faces the end of his time here with equanimity, transitioning to becoming an ancestor.

Bio:

Derek Scott is internationally regarded as an Internal Family Systems (IFS) master therapist. In his mid-twenties, in response to a community catastrophe Derek stepped into full-time AIDS work; inevitably developing a necessary expertise in grief as he came to a deep appreciation of the value of therapy in people's lives, including his own.

Derek's continuing drive and commitment led him to the healing modality of IFS therapy. Realizing its immense importance, he embarked on a mission to share it with the world. He has championed IFS therapy for the past two decades, teaching the model and raising awareness about its transformative power. A primary vehicle for this has been his YouTube channel, which currently has over 1.8 million views and features all free videos.

His book and work remind us to question the narratives we are handed about who we are, what has value, and indeed the very meaning of death and dying.
